ALCIDE PUNKO
Councillor
Alcide Punko was raised across northern communities, including Fort Chipewyan, Telegraph Creek, BC, Meander River, Assumption, Fort Good Hope, Fort Providence, Fort Smith, and Fort McMurray, which has been his home for over 40 years. These experiences shaped his understanding of northern life, Métis culture, and responsibility to community.
His father was a manager with the Hudson’s Bay Company, and through that upbringing, Alcide believes he was raised in a Métis way of life rooted in working, trading, and handling furs in a manner similar to early Métis ancestors.
Alcide is a residential school survivor, an experience that confirms his commitment to protecting culture, family, and future generations.
He has worked in the oilsands as an Electrician and later in leadership roles in maintenance, planning, and operations. He currently works as a Shift Coordinator with CNRL Albian Sands, where his experience has strengthened his understanding of leadership, accountability, and teamwork.
Alcide previously served as president and director of McMurray Métis when the vision for the Cultural Centre was first established. He actively shares Métis traditions with his children and grandchildren and believes in moving forward together as a Métis people. He remains committed to serving his community with honesty, accountability, and respect for elders, families, and future generations.
