KELLY MYERS

Biography

Kelly has served as a Director on the McMurray Métis Local Council since 2017 and was appointed Vice President in July 2021. Kelly developed a passion for the environment at an early age. Educating herself in Indigenous/Traditional Land Cultures, she pursued a career in environment within the oil sands industry. As her career developed and grew, she coupled her environmental passion with Safety Management. Having a diverse background in Environment and Safety, oil industry producers Petro-Canada, Suncor and Syncrude utilized her skills to lead and manage their environmental, health and safety departments, including leading and managing Suncor’s audit and investigation team.
Kelly has a passion for Métis people and their history in Canada. Dedicated to the mission of the McMurray Métis, she hopes to continue to share her knowledge, energy, and expertise while guiding the organization in its evolution. Her passion projects include the Infinity Métis Golf Tournament to support the Bursary fund and post secondary education, youth programs, Elders gatherings, and the sharing of knowledge. Kelly takes deep pride in any moment when McMurray Métis Members can come together as a family and share culture, tradition, and history not only among the Membership but also with the larger community. Kelly was born and raised in Fort McMurray. Kelly and her husband, Shawn, have four children and four grandchildren, who are the sixth generation to be born in the region.
